You Miss Every Shot You Don't Take

As you may have guessed, my inaugural blog entry is about taking chances. A wise man once said (or maybe many wise men have said this); "you miss every shot you don't take." This quote can apply to so many things on a universal level. Whether we're discussing sports, business, chasing a dream, or asking someone on a date; life is all about taking a shot.

At the end of the day, there will always be things we will look back on and regret. I've heard it said that the worst regret we can have when we look back on the past is a "what if?" It seems easy to reason why this may be. Sometimes in life we try something and fail, but out of that failure comes growth. Its plain to see why following our dreams in life can be fulfilling even if not reached. When chasing our dreams in life becomes habit, thats when the true magic happens. In choosing to go after our purpose and never give up; we are prepping ourselves for success. In this process we learn to become humble and swallow our failures, but out of these circumstances; we learn to know the taste of success. With that being said, I feel its safe to say that even when we don't get what we want in life, there's a certain satisfaction in at least knowing we tried our best.

Conversely, what happens when we don't try at all? To me, the path not walked down is the hardest path to follow. Looking back and wondering what might have been, could be the saddest path of all. If we don't follow our dreams, and we don't put forth the effort to accomplish our goals; we've failed them by default. Many of us have a situation in our pasts that we look back on and wonder if things would have been different if only we gave it a shot. My goal is to minimize those situations in the future, and to encourage you, the reader, to do the same. If you were to pretend that you were the protagonist in a movie, and your movie started right now: what would you do? What would you set out to accomplish, and what routes would you take to get there? What if we're not pretending?

Let me let you in on a little secret: we're not! We all have our aspirations and things we want out of life. For me, I've always wanted to run my own Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy. Its a dream of mine to establish a group of people who want to work hard to accomplish their goals, and use the martial arts as a launchpad to achieve whatever it is that they want out of life. And now here I am, a new business owner, scared to death of failure, but passionate for success. Now its your turn! Grab the bull by the horns, and go after your wildest dreams; whatever they may be. We only have one life to live, why not live it on YOUR terms? After all, we miss every shot we don't take.
